Blankets and Wine XL
So this past weekend was the 40th edition of Blankets and Wine.
‘Blankets & Wine is East Africa’s premier music experience designed to showcase outstanding musicians in the emerging genres of afro-based music.
Every first Sunday of the month we book three to four outstanding afro-music bands who range from afro soul, afro-fusion, afro-jazz, ethnic, and other genres’ (source https://www.facebook.com/groups/120046462448/members/ )
Andrew & Afrology the Band, Makadem , Dan ‘Chizi’ Aceda and Liquideep were performing. I’m sure you can all guess who I was there for. I am not a fan of the price tag..in fact the last time I attended B&W I paid Ksh800 for my ticket. It now costs Kshs2000 for a ticket at the gate. I’m a huge Liquideepfan and Chizi is one of my all-time favourite Kenyan artists so for them I was willing to fork out the cash.
Picture time!
Part of the crowd at the event
Dan’s band and some of the audience
I’d say I know them, but I don’t.When one walks around with a ‘big’ camera people pose for you without question
No I won’t settle, settle for less
And I don’t want us, if we ain’t the best
No I won’t settle… settle for less
Liquedeep’s absolutely awesome drummer
The print on the blazer plus his expression
They called me and asked me to take a pic of them. It’s only fair that they make an appearance on the post
Wondering what Ziyon had spotted
The only photo we managed to get of Andrew Mwambua is when he wasn’t on stage.
If you look really closely you can spot a hickey
That’s Ratia, she claims she was smiling at something Dan Aceda had said. We all believe her, don’t we?
The Good-Liquideep and Dan Aceda absolutely rocked the crowd
The Bad-The area closest to the stage was like a swamp. Everyone in flats suffered.
The Ugly-It took us an hour to get from Mamba Village to the main road
After spending an hour in that snarl up we eventyally got the highway and made our way to Volar where the after party was being held. It was absolutely PACKED! I didn’t manage to get any pictures though, sorry guys.
I’d like to thank Ratia for letting us use her camera. Thank you Mbugua for taking most of the pics.

Looked like an awesome experience, btw did not know that chizi is still an active musician the last i’d heard of him was way back in like 2008.
He mentioned that he is working on his third album so you can look out for that. He has been a regular on the music scene. You can watch his latest video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzdqZyYbNp0
Even though I missed it, I can count on you to capture the mood. Feeling like I was there.
o/ Mission accomplished
