The Moorings

I had previously mentioned passing by The Moorings on our way to Watamu in the previous post.I had been there only once before and I had loved it!Vowed to go back again as soon as I could *cue a 2yr gap before I could*  Luckily nothing had changed and it was every bit as enchanting as it had been the first time I was there and I am  glad I forced my brother to squeeze it into our itinerary.

The Moorings is Kenya’s only floating restaurant. It is a seafood restaurant situated on Mtwapa creek which is in the North Coast of Mombasa. For more information about the restaurant  you can check out their website here http://www.themoorings.co.ke/They also have a menu on there so you can see what they have to offer

Dhow cruises are available. I’m hoping I’ll be able to take one next time I’m at The Moorings. Refreshments are served on board. For more information here’s a link to The Mooring’s contacts http://www.themoorings.co.ke/index.php/contact-us

Enjoyed the food but I enjoyed the view more. The service wasn’t the fastest but the waiters were really friendly and polite. Another great thing about the restaurant is that they do pickups from local hotels; all you need to do is give them a call.

So, how do you get there? From Mombasa town via public transport it is relatively easy. Just get a matatu heading to Mtwapa from town and alight in Mtwapa. You can actually see the restaurant floating on the creek on your way there. It is not too far from the main road and if you ask for directions I am sure you will find it. Ok I suck at giving directions but if I didn’t get lost I’m sure you won’t.

Driving there is also pretty easy. Mtwapa is approximately a 23 minute drive from Mombasa town and the turning for getting to the restaurant is like a 1min drive once you pass the bridge. Not sure if there is a sign but you can always ask for directions.
